Lately, I've felt an urge to mix up the beauty routine. To simplify it. I'm very lucky that my skin is usually clear, and I felt confident to go completely bare-faced. Yet still, somehow, every time I wear makeup, I find myself spending time applying layers of products, which is absolutely great on those days I want to spend my time blending eyeshadow and painting my skin and leave the house with the knowledge I've made myself up how I wanted. Sometimes a long-winded, many products makeup routine can be empowering. However, sometimes I want to be able to blitz a beauty routine, embrace my skin as it is, and by just added a few products which make me feel a little fresher, and nothing more.
So I've been cutting out a few products, including Foundation, Contour, Brow Pomade and Eyeshadow and complete a daily beauty look with less. Going for a natural glowy look.

A More Simple Make Up Routine.
So I've been cutting out a few products, including Foundation, Contour, Brow Pomade and Eyeshadow and complete a daily beauty look with less. Going for a natural glowy look.

Usually, I post my monthly favourites on my Youtube Channel, however, I've decided I want to dedicate a little more time to this blog, so my Youtube has taken a bit of a back burner, so this month you've got my favourites in the form of writing and photographs. So, here are the things I've found myself enjoying the last few months.
She Must Be Mad by Charly Cox
I have been obsessed with Charly's poetry since discovering her. It was reading her work that inspired me to start writing my own poetry, again. Still, She Must Be Mad has exceeded my expectations. It's broken down into 4 sections: she must in love, she must be mad, she must be fat and she must be an adult. The pieces are about relationships, mental health, body image, and growing up. To put it simply, I relate so much to this book, to the themes and to Charly's words. Here's what I wrote about it on my Instagram: "I’ve never related so much to another person's writing. Charly is a wizard with words, she creates beauty from the cruel inner workings of the mind. I feel hypnotised by her ability to string sentences together. Since I’ve had this book, I’ve read it every day, I’ve carried it everywhere I went and I’ve never found pages so worth the weight in my handbag."
Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman
The story lives up to the hype. From the very first page, I felt desperate to know more about Eleanor's character. The story is eye-opening, funny and heartbreaking. The characters are intriguing, strange lovely and terrifying. It touches on loneliness, on trauma, on friendship. It hooking, and clever. The ending is completely unexpected.
My Not So Perfect Life by Sophie Kinsella
I didn't expect to love this 'chick flick' style book as much as I did, once I started reading it, I could not put it down. This book is based around the character Kat, who has a life which looks perfect on Instagram, from afar, but up close it's falling apart. It's about keeping up appearance.s Kat soon moves home and becomes Katie again. She's entangled in a web of lies, as she doesn't want to admit she lost her 'perfect' job and is hungry from revenge when her seemingly terrible old boss comes back into her life with no idea who she is. It's an easy read, the story is interesting and it's super relatable.
Glossier You Solid Perfume
When I wear this, I constantly find myself bringing my wrist to my nose to get a whiff because I love the scent, it probably makes me look crazy, but it's so worth it. I was unsure when I finish purchased it whether I'd enjoy the solid perfume format, but it seems I love it. It makes it handbag friendly, and still, it's easy enough to pop on - plus the packaging is cute and feels kinda luxurious. It's a fresh scent, which almost smells unisex.
Reason Cap (similar linked)
This cap first caught my eye when I was browsing Urban Outfitters months ago, and it seemed weeks later I found myself still thinking about it, so I treated myself. I love the vibrant, on-trend yellow. I think a cap suits me and adds a casual finishing touch to any outfit. Plus with this bizarre heatwave and my habit of fainting, having a hat to keep the sun from the head has been quite practical.
Pink Vans
Since buying myself these pastel pink vans I'm finding myself wearing them constantly, with everything. Not only do they work with any outfit, but they're comfy. Plus they're subtle way for me to add a touch of pink to my outfits because unlike everyone else, I'm still not over this whole millennial pink thing.
Beach Instax
This may be a strange thing to add to my favourites, but I felt it was worthy of a place. I took the black and white Instax photo on the beach in Portugal, mainly because I wanted to use the remainder of the black and white film. I, however, love the image so much - it's stuck beside my bed, and I keep finding myself admiring it. It's a little reminder to start playing with film photography, even if it just with my Instax because the results can be surprising and beautiful.
Zoella Drench Me
Yet again, I'm impressed with another Zoella Beauty Product. This product effortlessly creates amazing bubbles, it's lightly scented but not overly so. It only takes a small amount of product for a large number of bubbles. Plus, the packaging is really something isn't it? Zoe's design and marketing team need to give themselves a pat on the backs.
ASOS Face Necklace
To put it simply, I think this abstract face necklace looks really freaking cool, and I've been wearing it constantly.
Glossier Invisible Shield SPF 30
I love everything about this SPF, I spoke about it a lot here so I won't say too much now. Just know, it's completely invisible, easy to apply, and refreshing to use.
Neutrogena Visibly Clear Pink Grapefruit Oil-Free Moisturiser
I bought this moisturizer as a bit of a throwback, I used to use it when I was around 18, seeing it in a store filled me with nostalgia, so I decided to give it ago all over again. Now, 100% don't have the target skin type for this, but still, it does the job. Plus, I'm in love with the scent, it's super refreshing and really wakes me up in the mornings.

A few weeks back, I found myself giving into temptation, and clicking 'buy now' on my rather pricey Glossier basket. Today in the blog post, I thought I'd give you the low down on my purchases, what is living up the anticipation (I've been lusting after the many hyped products for such a long time), what I won't be repurchasing and all the other details you might want if you're considering a little Glossier haul yourself.

I have been using The Cherry Balm Dot Com since Christmas, so I knew I was pretty in love with the formula (it gets a mention in this post and this video if you want more of my thoughts on it), however this time I decided I wanted to give some of the other flavours/scents(?) a whirl. I opted to the pack of three offered on the website (why would I not? You save a fiver), and selected The Birthday Balm, The Coconut Balm and The Rose Balm
On paper, a glitter lip balm sounds all kinds of tacky, and a little too extra. However, this product really is not. The Birthday Balm has a very subtle, small, small glitter in it, which just adds an iridescent sparkle which occasionally might catch someone's eye. The balm isn't isn't super glossy looking, it gives slightly matte but moisturised finish, so the glitter adds a little something to do whilst not overdoing it. It smells like vanilla birthday cake, it's an inviting, yet sort of sickly scent.
This balm is my favourite of the three, mainly because I am a complete sucker for a coconut scent. It smells (and tastes) delicious. There isn't any pigment in the balm so it doesn't add colour to your lips but again gives the matte-ish, moisturised look.
I've got to be honest, I don't love this one, I'm not even that sure why I went for it, I'm not a big fan of rose scents. There is a pastel pink tint to this balm which I think is just a little too pastel for my lips, it doesn't really show up.
The Lidstars are one of the new editions to the Glossier family, which I've been itching to try since their release. Having heard very mixed reviews, and having given them a go myself, I still cannot figure out where my opinion lies. I either love them or hate them - it's hard to put my finger on which.
The formula is very blendable, if anything too much so, they blend down to very little, which is great when you want a casual wash of colour over the lid, but anything more than that takes a lot of building, which is such a shame because the colours look so beautiful when you swipe them across the skin, but a lot of the colour gets lost in the necessary blending process. As they dry they feel slightly sticky, I think it's important to blend properly before they dry to have a smooth finish if it's applied too thickly in places it can go sort of crusty, but you'd only ever notice that look up close on your own face. Application with them is quite messy. I like the doe-foot applicator, it's easy to use, but it is hard to be precise with, however, considering the bendability of the shadows isn't much of an issue. They also crease quite easily. Having said all of this, there's easy to use, and bloody beautiful shades. I went for Cub and Slip, both shades are stunning, I'm definitely want to give the shade Lily a go next.
I have been using the Cloud Paint in Dusk for a while now (I talk about it here) I just find it so easy to apply and I think cream consistent makes it look very natural. My only complaint would be, it's not all that long-lasting. This time I opted for the shades Puff and Haze
The Shade Puff is a very pretty pink which I love, I think it works really while mixed with dusk. The pretty shade gives a very feminine look.
The Shade Haze has a much more purple tone to it, which works really well if you're after something a little deeper and more intense.
I am sort of in love with the scent, it's somehow both musky, and fresh. I'm still not sure where I sit with the whole solid perfume thing, but it certainly makes it very handbag friendly, and the packaging is so satisfying.
My only repurchase of the bunch. I've been using Boy Brow in Brown on my brows ever since getting it for Christmas, it makes just look fuller. I talk about it in more detail here.

The Balm Dot Com
The Birthday Balm:

Generation G Lipstick in Crush
This is another one which I can't figure out if I love or hate. I definitely love the effortless look this product creates, and the shade is a beautiful cherry red which somehow looks understated. But the formula is unlike any I've worn before - it's matte, and so far I've only applied it over one of my many Balm Dot Com, but I imagine without moisturising your lips beforehand it would cling to dry patches and applying it might become more of a challenge. As for the application, it certainly doesn't glide on, it takes quite a lot of work to get a decent amount of product on, its very sheer, which is great if you want a tint of colour smudged on, not so much if you want a more intense colour pay off. This lipstick somehow doesn't quite look as though you've got lipstick on when wearing it, the light texture of the matte product makes it appear simply as though your natural lips are of a deeper pigment.
The Haloscope in Quarts:
I've got be honest, I don't love this product as much as I wanted to, but I think a lot of this is due to the hype surrounding it, and I have a very similar product which I think I might prefer slightly (Marc Jacobs Glow Stick in Spotlight - I find the shape easier to work with). I love the shade of this haloscope, it's a beautiful, subtle highlight with a slight iridescent silver tone to it. I still don't understand the purpose of the circle in middle, but surely there's a reason for it. I find this cream product takes a little warming up, but once it's ready to go, it's super blendable and easy to use. I love the way this highlight simply catches the light sometimes and looks wow, but looks natural enough. I just don't really enjoy the shape the product, I think it's too large which makes it hard to be precise when applying straight from the wand.
I only brought this SPF because I have a holiday coming up and I'm so glad that I did, it's really not your average sunscreen! First I love the pump, it just makes the process of using it so much more enjoyable. The product is a gel-like formula which comes out of the tube a clear colour with a slight white tint to it. It's really easy to smooth over the skin. You cannot see or feel it at all when it's on, which is really all you can ask for in a face SP

Boy Brow in Brown
My only repurchase of the bunch. I've been using Boy Brow in Brown on my brows ever since getting it for Christmas, it makes just look fuller. I talk about it in more detail here.Some other thoughts on the brand:
- The branding and packaging is on point they are the perfect products to show off on the shelf
- The option to buy multiple products for slightly cheaper is genius (I did this the balms, lidstars and the boy brow and haloscope)
- The products are quite fun to use - this like mixing the cloud paints to create your own shade is just fun.
- You hardly need brushes at all for these products which makes them great for travel.

I've stripped back my once timely, product full makeup routine. I'm enjoying keeping things simple with more minimal make. It saves precious time, plus a natural look can be more than enough.
Of course, it helps that I seem to have come across some products which really work for me. I find pleasure in using these quick and easy items, and with the finished result I feel put together and fresh - without using 4 different eyeshadow palettes, and spending a good 20 minutes blending.
IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream: It will come as no surprise this is still my favourite base products, I've raved about it so much. It really lives up to the name 'You Skin but Better'
Maybelline Eye Erase Concealer: I'll be honest, this isn't my favourite concealer, but it's doing the job for now. I find the package a little too messy. Although the shade is perfect, and it looks on application, I find through the day it goes a tad cakey. If you have any concealer recommendations, please send them my way!
Tanya Burr Cosmetics Contour Stick in Medium/Light (discontinued): I really love the formula of this product, it's so creamy and blendable making it quick and easy to apply. I wish there were more shade available as I find the light/medium is a tad orange toned for me. It creates more of a sunkissed look which a bronzer would create, rather than the shadows more of a grey tone would create. It's great as a bronzer/contour hybrid but if you like a more intense contour, this may not be the one for you.
Glossier Cloud Paint in Dusk: Again, I've banged on about this so much, that I won't ramble on for too long. I love this as a way to give my cheeks a quick flush of colour. It's easy to apply and just makes you look healthy. I can see a few of the other shades entering my make up bag soon.
Marc Jacobs Glowstick in Spotlight: This cream highlight is so underrated. The shade iridescent shade sits somewhere between a gold and silver-tone, meaning it's suitable for any skin tone and offers a colour which other highlighters don't. It's so creamy and easy to apply and blend out. Your highlight pops while still giving a somewhat natural glow. The shape of the packaging also makes it really easy to apply.
Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Luminous Light: I've finally hit pan on this, and I feel like I need to repurchase ASAP. This fine powder is great for setting your make up if you like a glowy look. It's got some glitter in it, but it's subtly beautiful on the skin.
Benefit BrowZing in 2: I've sworn by this brow product since long before it had fancy silver packaging. The combination of the wax and powder products are perfect for filling in brows.
Glossier Boy Brow in Brown: This gives the brows the most incredible texture if you like them too look a little hairy this is the one to go for.
Surratt Eye Lash Curler: They are the most life-changing eyelash curlers ever, it gives my lashes volume I didn't know they had.
IT Cosmetics SuperHero Mascara: The product actually gives a bit of thickness, and length to my fine, unimpressive eyelashes.
Tanya Burr Cosmetics Selfie Last Mascara (discontinued): The mascara grabs each little hair and defines it. It stays in place too which is always a bonus.

With Christmas just gone, I've found myself enjoy some bits and bobs, with nowhere to talk about them as the December Faves got bumped to make room for the 2017 Beauty Favourites. Every time I use these products I kinda wanna shout about how much I love them, so here is me, shouting (typing) about some (unintentional) pink/red/black things which I think are ~the bomb~.
As you can see I finally got around to trying some Glossier (thank you Mum), the brand so rightly lives up to the hype, and I've thrown in some fashion/life things because I think they're great also...

Glossier The Cherry Balm Dot Com - I've recently toned it down a little with the lipstick, and this has been the perfect replacement. The cherry coloured tint to your lips, while it keeps them feeling moisturised, yet not slippy or super shiny.
Glossier Super Bounce Serum - This has made such a difference to my skin in a short amount of time. It just looks plumper and healthier. It just gives your skin that extra something you didn't know it was lacking.
Glossier Cloud Paint - a little goes a long way with this, it only takes the tiniest amount to add a natural flush to your cheeks. I have the shade dusk which is, funnily enough, a dusky pink with an orange tone to it. I'm dying to give the others a try and would be interested in experimenting with mixing the colours a little. I love the formula, and using a cream blush, for a change, is great, unlike my other blushers, it does not look at all powdery (obviously, it's cream)
#GirlBoss by Sophia Amoruso - There has been a lot of talk in the blogosphere about this book, so I finally gave in and bought myself a copy. I'm going to write an in-depth post on this soon so I won't bang on about it too much in this one. I really like the tone of the writer in this, it's very relatable, it makes your dreams seem doable (which they are) and there are some useful life tips mixed in amongst my autobiographical feel to the words.
Zara Bag (similar linked) - I have fallen deeply in love with the bag from Zara. The small burgundy has filled a gap in my wardrobe. There is a removable strap if you want to wear it crossbody, or a handle for if you just fancy carrying it/hooking it on your arm. The structured boxy shape makes it look a lot of pricey than it was, it was a bargain and a half. It fit in all you need, honestly, it may look small, but looks I can be deceiving. I managed to take all of the essentials and sneak in a decent number of jelly shots into a club on NYE. I just feel great when I wear this bag, it looks great, makes enough of a statement (without being too loud) and does its job.
Next Jumper (similar linked) - This jumper is so damn cosy, the quality is great, and it's so soft. It's not too long, it's not too cropped, it sits just where I like it. I am crazy about the bright red shade, and it has pompoms knitted into the fabric which adds an extra bit of texture (and a sort of festive vibe, which I'm ignoring, as it's now January).
ASOS Beanie (similar linked) - You might have guessed by now, but I like the colour pink. So when my sister got me this pink beanie for Christmas I was pretty pleased. I love the double fur pompom, I've been after one with two fluffy pompoms for a while now. I like the knit, and I like the colour. I just think it's nice tbh.

Bullet Journal - New Year, New Bullet Journal. I've made things a lot simpler with my BJ (~don't pretend you didn't giggle~) I am really enjoying it again and feeling pretty damn organised (video coming soon). Even if you're not into the Bullet Journal concept, I'd get it for the dotted paper, it's life-changing.
Muji 0.38 Pen - It's probably a little sad to put a pen in with my favourites, but sometimes you just gotta. I'm sure all you stationery lovers will understand where I am coming from. It writes nicely, the nib is super fine, and although it's inky, it does not smudge, which being a left-handed super smudger makes that the best pen quality ever.

Glossier The Cherry Balm Dot Com - I've recently toned it down a little with the lipstick, and this has been the perfect replacement. The cherry coloured tint to your lips, while it keeps them feeling moisturised, yet not slippy or super shiny.
Glossier Super Bounce Serum - This has made such a difference to my skin in a short amount of time. It just looks plumper and healthier. It just gives your skin that extra something you didn't know it was lacking.
Glossier Cloud Paint - a little goes a long way with this, it only takes the tiniest amount to add a natural flush to your cheeks. I have the shade dusk which is, funnily enough, a dusky pink with an orange tone to it. I'm dying to give the others a try and would be interested in experimenting with mixing the colours a little. I love the formula, and using a cream blush, for a change, is great, unlike my other blushers, it does not look at all powdery (obviously, it's cream)
#GirlBoss by Sophia Amoruso - There has been a lot of talk in the blogosphere about this book, so I finally gave in and bought myself a copy. I'm going to write an in-depth post on this soon so I won't bang on about it too much in this one. I really like the tone of the writer in this, it's very relatable, it makes your dreams seem doable (which they are) and there are some useful life tips mixed in amongst my autobiographical feel to the words.
Zara Bag (similar linked) - I have fallen deeply in love with the bag from Zara. The small burgundy has filled a gap in my wardrobe. There is a removable strap if you want to wear it crossbody, or a handle for if you just fancy carrying it/hooking it on your arm. The structured boxy shape makes it look a lot of pricey than it was, it was a bargain and a half. It fit in all you need, honestly, it may look small, but looks I can be deceiving. I managed to take all of the essentials and sneak in a decent number of jelly shots into a club on NYE. I just feel great when I wear this bag, it looks great, makes enough of a statement (without being too loud) and does its job.
Next Jumper (similar linked) - This jumper is so damn cosy, the quality is great, and it's so soft. It's not too long, it's not too cropped, it sits just where I like it. I am crazy about the bright red shade, and it has pompoms knitted into the fabric which adds an extra bit of texture (and a sort of festive vibe, which I'm ignoring, as it's now January).
ASOS Beanie (similar linked) - You might have guessed by now, but I like the colour pink. So when my sister got me this pink beanie for Christmas I was pretty pleased. I love the double fur pompom, I've been after one with two fluffy pompoms for a while now. I like the knit, and I like the colour. I just think it's nice tbh.

Bullet Journal - New Year, New Bullet Journal. I've made things a lot simpler with my BJ (~don't pretend you didn't giggle~) I am really enjoying it again and feeling pretty damn organised (video coming soon). Even if you're not into the Bullet Journal concept, I'd get it for the dotted paper, it's life-changing.
Muji 0.38 Pen - It's probably a little sad to put a pen in with my favourites, but sometimes you just gotta. I'm sure all you stationery lovers will understand where I am coming from. It writes nicely, the nib is super fine, and although it's inky, it does not smudge, which being a left-handed super smudger makes that the best pen quality ever.
